<title>2005 Annual Report</title>

<description>2005 Annual Report
AMICAALL Uganda Programme
The annual report describes the activities and progress made by the Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders on HIV/AIDS in Africa (AMICAALL) Uganda chapter, during the year 2005. AMICAALL Uganda is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that was established in November 2000 with a major goal of preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS and to mitigate the social and economic impact of the epidemic in urban and peri-urban communities of Uganda. In its five years of existence, AMICAALL Uganda programme has made significant contributions to the national response as a critical entry point to HIV/AIDS response in local government. HIV/AIDS in urban areas still remains a very big challenge. Despite progress made over the past years to reduce the prevalence, it still remains very high in urban areas compared to the rural areas. In the absence of enhanced institutional capacity of urban local authorities to plan, implement and coordinate effective interventions, it is unlikely that a sustained response will be possible.
